Biz Quiz - 1

Sports is not exactly my cup of tea and I can't even claim to be the born spectator. Changing the flavour a bit from Gowda's sports quiz, these are 5 questions from a Business Quiz Aditya and I did last year. Mail me your answers to abhisheknag@gmail.com. I'll send you the answers as a reply to your mail. Googlable, but we know you'd rather not.

1. Started by Mr. Li Ka-shing, Chairman of Cheung Kong (Holdings) Limited and HW Limited, it was sold to Mannesmann AG in 1999 for a consideration of HK$113 billion including shares in Mannesmann. After the takeover, names were brainstormed and the shortlist included Pecan, Gemini, Egg, Micro, and, of course _____. Which company?

2. General Dwight D. Eisenhower sent a telegram requesting 10 ____ plants for the troops overseas on June 29, 1943. At the beginning of the war, Robert W. Woodruff, president of ____, issued an order to "see to it that every man in uniform gets ____ for five cents wherever he is and whatever it costs the Company.“ Fill in.

3. The backbone of the north Italian city of XXXXX are 17 contrade, which can be likened to city wards or administrative districts. These well-defined neighborhoods were designated in the Middle Ages, basically to aid the many military companies hired to defend XXXXX's fiercely-earned independence from Florence and other nearby city states. Every year, in spring, the 17 contrade participate in a horse race called Il YYYYY. The horses tear around the Piazza del Campo at breakneck speed, wearing the colors and designs of the contrade they represent. Eta ki???

4. "The companies in The _____ Index were carefully selected based on this formula: Company = (P*10)+X+Y where P is my personal opinion and X and Y are both letters that don't mean anything. P is subject to sudden and unexplained change, based on the e-mail reports I get from readers in the field. Weight is given to companies that have high numbers of cubicles, engineers." Who explaining what?

5. Mr. Henry Ford
Detroit, Mich.

Dear Sir:

While I still have got breath in my lungs I will tell you what a dandy car you make. I have drove Fords exclusively when I could get away with one. For sustained speed and freedom from trouble the Ford has got every other car skinned, and even if my business hasn't been strictly legal it don't hurt anything to tell you what a fine car you got in the V8.

Yours truly
_______
